Sacred Elixir remains outright $4.20 favourite in 2016 JJ Atkins betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Souchez ($4.60) and Attention ($7).

Will Sacred Elixir justify favouritism and win the JJ Atkins, or will one of his may talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Souchez ($4.60)

Godolphin runner Souchez appears as though he will relish a step-up to a mile, will be partnered by James McDonald and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current $4.60 JJ Atkins odds. Debuting to racing for an impressive win in a Rosehill minor over 1100m on December 19th, the Lonhro colt returned this year for third in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) on March 5th. Arriving in Brisbane for third in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m), Souchez ran on from the rear of the field for a handy fifth in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) a fortnight ago and appears primed for a return to winning form.

Jaws Of Steel

Trainer Robbie Laing is thrilled with the condition of Jaws Of Steel, who could very well receive the run of the race in the JJ Atkins from barrier 4, with in-form hoop Brad Rawiller in the saddle. Debuting for fourth in the Listed Pearl Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Mornington Guineas (1500m) on April 2nd, the Sharkbite gelding was unlucky to be blocked for a run in the final straight when seventh in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 16th, but responded with a slashing performance for third in the Pat Hyland Plate (1400m) on May 21st.

Nikitas ($9.50)

Nikitas has produced a number of commendable efforts through a short racing career so far and appears as though he has found the 2016 JJ Atkins in peak order. Debuting to racing for success in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) on December 5th, the Snitzel colt progressed to third in the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) before running second behind Capitalist in the Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) on January 9th. Clearly requiring a run when eighth in the Champagne Classic first-up, Nikitas ran on for third in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes a fortnight ago and will clearly relish a step-up to a mile in the JJ Atkins.
