Peter and Paul Snowden are set to be offered several good chances of success in the two-year-old feature after including both Attention and Jericho in 2016 JJ Atkins nominations.

Debuting to racing for second in the International Animal Health Plate (1100m) at Rosehill in November, Attention returned to racing this year for seventh in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) before beating a talented field to the line in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence on March 26th.

Failing to fire in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the Stratum colt retuned from a brief freshen-up for second in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 14th before returning to winning form in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) a fortnight ago.

Jericho debuted to racing for a credible fourth in the Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill in November, and was immediately put away with a view towards Brisbane winter features.

Resuming from a spell for success in the Pro-Ride Maiden (1100m) on May 4th, the Red Ransom colt arrived in Brisbane for a close second behind Archives in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) on May 21st.

Godolphin are also set to launch a multi-pronged attack in the Group 1 mile race after trainer John O’Shea included both Archives and Souchez in JJ Atkins nominations.

Running third in a talent-rich Warwick Farm minor over 1100m on debut in March, Archives became exciting sire Helmet’s most successful progeny to date when taking out the Hampden Stakes on May 21st.

Undoubtedly Godolphin’s best chance of success in the JJ Atkins this year, Souchez is poised to be partnered by James McDonald on Saturday and will be tough to beat should he draw an ideal barrier.

Running third in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) in late February, Souchez delivered a classy field defeat in the Pago Pago Stakes before returning to the paddock for a brief freshen-up.

Running third in the Champagne Classic, the son of Lonhro was luckless in transit when fifth in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes but appears as though he will relish a step-up in distance in the JJ Atkins.

Classy locals Nikitas, Candika, Dreams Aplenty and Oink have all be included in 2016 JJ Atkins nominations.

The 2016 JJ Atkins final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
