2015 JJ Atkins Final Field and Barrier Draw

June 3rd, 2015

Just 12 talented two-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Doomben Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.

Look To The Stars posted an impressive and maiden black type win in the key form indicating Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) a fortnight ago and is positioned well for continued success in the 2015 JJ Atkins in barrier 4.

Posting two wins and as many minors over eight career starts to date, Look To The Stars ran a credible fifth in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 14th and arrived in Queensland for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) on April 25th.

While luckless and caught wide for tenth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 9th, the I Am Invincible filly will be difficult to beat with last start hoop Luke Tarrant confirmed to retain the ride.

Chris Waller is set to be offered three good chances of success in the 2015 JJ Atkins after confirmed all of Counterattack, Press Statement and Feast For Eyes in the final field.

Bypassing the Autumn Carnival despite finishing second amongst notable competition over two summer starts, Counterattack returned this time for a maiden win in the TAB Place Multi Plate (1200m) on April 15th.

Having run a luckless fourth in each of the Champagne Classic and BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes since arriving in Brisbane, a step-up to a mile looks ideal for Counterattack this weekend.

Press Statement is yet to contest a black type event and will need luck in running to make a successful transition in the JJ Atkins from barrier 10.

Debuting for success in a Canterbury minor over 1100m on April 29th, the Hinchinbrook colt repeated the dose over 1350 at Rosehill Gardens last weekend.

Feast For Eyes will be partnered by leading Hong Kong-based hoop Zac Purton in the 2015 JJ Atkins and is sure to receive a dream run from barrier 1.

Running fourth in two Sydney minors upon resuming this time, the son of More Than Ready booked a trip to the 2015 JJ Atkins with an impressive four length win in the TAB.com.au Handicap (1550m) on May 27th.

Liam Birchley is also offered two good chances in Blueberry Hill and Pepperano in the 2015 JJ Atkins.

Arguably the standout two-year-old of the Brisbane Winter Carnival so far, Blueberry Hill ran second in the Ken Russell Memorial, won the Champagne Classic and again finished second in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes most recently.

While failing to fire when checked early in the Sires’ Produce, Birchley is confident the conditions of the 2015 JJ Atkins will play into the strengths of Pepperano, particularly having drawn barrier 7.
