It wasn’t the pretties ride by Tommy Berry on the 2-year-old Al Maher gelding, but when it counted Almalad was able to catch race favourite Brazen Beau and give Berry and Waterhouse their third win on the day so far. Looks Like The Cat finished strongly to claim third.

“I probably didn’t give him the best of rides,” Berry said after the race.

“We came out of the gates quite well and he showed good pace early and I probably should have just sat there in the front because as I was grabbing him he wanted to get off the track a bit, but he was just a class above these.”

In only their third career start Almalad has now added a Group 1 victory to their tally and taken their career prize money from $86,000 to over $400,000.
