Romantic Touch Faces First Black Type Test In 2013 JJ Atkins

June 4th, 2013

Romantic Touch will be taking a steep step up in grade when he contests the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday June 8, 2013.

The Northern Meteorgelding won his last start in a $35,000 handicap at Canterbury on May 22, 2013, and will be making his way straight to the top echelon of racing in the 2013 JJ Atkins.

Romantic Touch has won two of his four race starts and has earned more than $42,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

However, he has never contested a Black Type event.

Stable representative Mark Newnham is confident that Romantic Touch won’t be out of his league in the 2013 JJ Atkins,

“We gelded him after his first run as an early two-year-old,” Newnham said.

“Then we put blinkers on at Warwick Farm and they really switched him on.

“From that win he really came on, his work improved so we took the blinkers off at Canterbury and he improved again.

“I would be surprised if he’s not right in it.”

Meanwhile, trainer Chris Waller is yet to decide whether or not to run unbeaten stayer Zoustar in the 2013 JJ Atkins.

Zoustar won the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes in his most recent run at Doomben Racecourse on May 25, 2013.

“He’s most likely to run and on a dead five or better he will definitely run,” Waller said.
